Food schedule:
As of July 2008 media is made five days a week, usually in the morning. In the case that a holiday falls on a food day, food will be made on the closest day of that week possible.
Media should be ordered no latter than noon the day before it is to be made (noon Friday for Monday delivery) to guarantee delivery on time. We attempt to fill every order, however, orders are filled on a first come first served basis and we can not guarantee food delivery due to time or volume restrictions. So please order early.
Holiday schedules for Xmas and New Years vary, please contact us for current schedule. All standing orders will be suspended during the winter holidays.
Picking up fresh food
Fresh food is delivered to 4815, the fourth floor incubator, immediately after it is made. Food is left in the incubator for one calendar week before it is collected and the glassware recycled. Please collect your food promptly.
If you know you are not going to use a tray of media
please cross your name off the tag so that someone else may use the tray.
Please do not completely remove the tag so that we know when the media was
made.
If a tray of media is missing please make sure that someone else from your lab has not previously collected it. If it is not found contact the fly facility and replacement media will be made the next food day.
Returning old food
All discards must be frozen!
Unfrozen
discards must be placed in one of the freezers in room 4928. Make
sure that the freezer door shuts tightly and is latched before you leave.
Unused and previously frozen discards may be left on the shelves outside
the freezers in 4928.
Do Not Leave Unfrozen Discards
Outside of the Freezers! Leaving unfrozen
discards in 4911 or elseware potentially contaminates the entire facility
with stray flies and mites.
Every attempt will be made to
make space for all the discards but occasionally space runs out.
Try to bring discards back in small batches rather than all at once.
Please, never leave live flies anywhere near the food facility.
Setting up a new account:
To open a new account, bring a completed P39 form or provide us with PI's name, email, lab location, and phone number. We will also need a FAU or recharge ID and dept. code as well as responsible party contact information if it is different than the PI's.
Once we have this information you can begin using the facility. Come by the office and we will show you how to fill out the order sheets.
